In July 2024, Shuiyu Planning and Design Co., Ltd. successfully completed the preparation of the flood risk assessment report for the bridge engineering of the Dedicated Railway Project of Henan International Logistics Hub Construction and Operation Co., Ltd. With rigorous technical standards and professional planning and design capabilities, the company built a solid flood safety barrier for this provincial key logistics infrastructure project, facilitating its high‑quality and high‑standard implementation.
The Dedicated Railway Project of Henan International Logistics Hub Construction and Operation Co., Ltd. is a key construction project in Henan Province. Located within the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Comprehensive Experimental Zone and Xinzheng City, the railway line has a total length of approximately 23.9 kilometres. As a core supporting project for regional rail‑road intermodal transport, it includes 19 bridges of various types—extra‑large bridges, large and medium‑sized bridges, and small frame bridges—along with loading and unloading lines, container yards, and ancillary office facilities. Once completed, the project will open up the railway freight corridor of Zhengzhou International Land Port, improve the regional logistics transport network, strengthen the intermodal capacity in Central China, and help Henan build a national comprehensive logistics hub. It holds strategic significance for regional foreign trade freight and industrial logistics upgrading.
The area along the route features a complex network of rivers and numerous ditches. Many bridges are constructed crossing rivers and canals, and some sections are adjacent to water source protection areas, creating complicated hydrological conditions. As the core controlling works of the project, the bridges’ flood safety is directly linked to the operational stability of the entire railway, the ecological safety of surrounding water systems, and the safety of property of residents along the line. Therefore, the flood risk assessment is a critical prerequisite for compliant construction, safe execution, and long‑term operation. It is essential for avoiding flood hazards, meeting water conservancy regulatory requirements, and ensuring the project’s service life.
In this project, the company’s technical team based its work on the hydrogeological conditions of the project site and regional flood control planning standards, strictly following relevant national and Henan provincial specifications for water conservancy and railway infrastructure. The team conducted on‑site surveys at all bridge locations along the entire route, precisely investigated the current conditions of rivers, ditches, and drainage systems, systematically calculated river flood discharge capacity, bridge flow blockage ratios, and flood risk coefficients, and comprehensively analysed the impacts of bridge construction and operation on regional flood control and drainage, water system connectivity, and soil and water conservation. Meanwhile, considering the project’s characteristics—multiple bridges, multiple water systems, and high standards—the team optimised the design schemes accordingly. They scientifically proposed flood control remedial measures, river protection plans, and safety management suggestions for construction during flood seasons, precisely addressing the project’s flood control vulnerabilities. They ensured that all bridge works meet the regional flood control and drainage requirements while balancing construction safety and water system ecological integrity. The team successfully completed the compilation, verification, and refinement of the full set of flood risk assessment reports, providing authoritative and professional technical support for subsequent construction approvals, project implementation, and completion acceptance.
