In July 2018, good news came from the Henan Hydraulic Engineering Society: the “Sanmenxia City Water Ecosystem Protection and Restoration Plan,” prepared by Henan Shuiyu Water Resources Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Shuiyu”), was awarded the First Prize for Innovation Achievements in Henan’s Water Resources Industry. The plan stood out for its advanced design concepts, scientifically sound restoration approaches, and outstanding practical value. This award represents authoritative recognition of Shuiyu’s technical strength and innovation capacity in the field of water resources planning.
The project was led by a core technical team. Closely aligned with the national strategy for ecological protection and high‑quality development of the Yellow River Basin, the plan is grounded in the current water ecosystem conditions of Sanmenxia City. Adopting a systematic governance approach, it integrates the management of water resources, water environment, and water ecology, and establishes a full‑chain protection and restoration system characterized by “source pollution control – process restoration – system enhancement.” This framework provides scientific guidance for Sanmenxia City to build a robust ecological shield in the middle reaches of the Yellow River.
Throughout the planning process, the team thoroughly implemented the water governance principles of “giving priority to water conservation, achieving spatial equilibrium, promoting systematic governance, and leveraging both government and market forces.” They proposed a number of targeted technical solutions addressing key challenges such as regional soil erosion control, construction of river ecological corridors, and enhancement of water ecological functions. In response to the integrated protection and restoration needs of Sanmenxia’s mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and deserts, the team combined multi‑disciplinary techniques from ecological hydrology and environmental engineering to produce a planning outcome that is both scientifically robust and forward‑looking, while remaining highly operational. This laid a solid foundation for the subsequent implementation of water ecological restoration projects in the region.
This award is not only an authoritative endorsement from the industry, but also a significant milestone in Shuiyu’s deep commitment to water resources planning.
